Designing a custom mug that actually looks good
The difference between a custom mug people keep and one that ends up at the back of a cupboard is almost always the source image. Start with the highest resolution file you have — a photo straight from a phone camera is usually plenty, a screenshot or a picture saved from social media usually is not. As a rule of thumb, if the image looks soft when you zoom to full screen on your phone, it will look soft on the mug.
Think about the wrap. A mug is a curved surface, and the area facing the drinker is narrower than the full print area. Keep faces and text away from the far left and right edges so nothing important disappears around the handle. Group photos work better cropped tight to two or three people than squeezed in whole. If you are adding text, short beats clever: a name, a date, or one line reads well at arm's length across a kitchen.
Color behaves differently on ceramic than on a screen. Deep blacks print slightly warmer, and very light pastels can wash out against a white glaze. Photos with clear contrast between subject and background survive the process best. If your design matters — a memorial mug, a wedding favor, a milestone birthday — order one first and check it in your hands before committing to a batch.

What image resolution do I need for a custom mug?
Aim for at least 1000 pixels on the shortest side; 1500 px or more is better. Photos taken directly on a modern phone are fine. Avoid screenshots and images saved from messaging apps, which are compressed.
Are custom mugs dishwasher safe?
Yes. Our custom mugs are printed and heat-cured so the design survives regular dishwasher cycles. To keep colors at their brightest for longest, use a normal rather than an intensive cycle.
Can I put text on both sides of the mug?
Yes. You can print a photo on one side and text on the other, wrap a single design around the whole mug, or place small text near the handle. The design tool shows you the printable area.
How long does a custom mug take to make?
Custom mugs are printed to order, so they take a few days longer than stock items before they ship. Exact production and delivery times are shown at checkout for your country.
Can I order just one custom mug?
Yes, there is no minimum. Many people order a single mug as a gift. If you want several with different photos, add them as separate items and upload a different image to each.
What makes a good custom mug gift?
Specific beats generic. A photo from a particular day, an inside joke, a pet, or a date that means something to the person will land far better than a stock design with their name added.
